Our History

Christian Care Centers, Inc. is a not-for-profit, faith-based, (501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization that operates three elder-care campuses in the Dallas / Fort Worth Metroplex providing quality housing and health care services for seniors in North Texas regardless of race, color, creed, religion, or national origin. Each campus is on-site managed with oversight by the Mesquite Campus Corporate Office. Our Board of Trustees is comprised of Christian men and women who serve on a voluntary basis.

 

Hilltop Haven, Gunter, Texas

Christian Care Centers was founded on April 4, 1947 under the name “Home for the Aged” in Gunter, Texas, as a ministry to retired church of Christ ministers. The old Gunter Bible College housed the first residents, who were cared for by monetary donations from individuals and churches, as well as contributions, such as cows, garden produce, pigs, and other necessities, from area neighbors. Known as Hilltop Haven today, it was one of the first area nursing communities in Texas to be certified for Alzheimer’s care, 1989. Hilltop Haven currently serves seniors with 16 Retirement Living apartments, 179 Skilled Nursing beds for private pay, Medicare, and Medicaid residents, 60 of which are dedicated to specialized Alzheimer’s care. Hillside Rehabilitation Center has mostly private rooms. Christian Care Hospice is also available at Hilltop Haven. Hilltop is honored to have dedicated staff, some of whom have been with Christian Care Centers for more than 35 years.

 

Lakewood Village, Fort Worth, Texas

Lakewood Village, in Fort Worth, opened in 1982 and has expanded to a current multi-level Campus that provides five levels of senior care: 157 Retirement Living apartments, 34 Assisted Living Apartments, a 48-bed Skilled Nursing unit with 24-hour nursing and restorative care, accepting Medicare and private pay, and a Wellness Center. Lakewood Village, which is located just minutes from downtown Fort Worth, is nestled on 51 acres of beautiful wooded landscape with a fully stocked lake.

 

Christian Care Center, Mesquite, Texas

Christian Care Center, in Mesquite, opened in 1973 primarily as a nursing community with 120 beds. Since then, the Campus has expanded to 26 acres with six levels of care including Retirement Living, Assisted Living, Alzheimer's / Memory Care / Dementia Assisted Living, Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation, Home Health Care, and Hospice Services. McMillan Hi-rise Apartments and Hartin Cottages provide affordable, rental Retirement Living with included and à la carte services. Greenway Village, our 80-apartment, entrance fee, upscale Retirement Community, features one and two bedroom apartment homes, amenities, services, and a health care benefit for future needs. Bentley Assisted Living is a 61-apartment community which provides assistance for seniors who need some daily assistance, but not full nursing care. The Courtyard at Christian Care Center is a 44-apartment Alzheimer’s / Memory Care / Dementia Assisted Living community. The Health Care Center contains a Rehabilitation Center and 175 skilled nursing beds, 32 of which are dedicated to seniors suffering from advanced Alzheimer’s and dementia. The state-of-the-art Wellness Center is equipped with an indoor heated pool, a relaxing spa area, a juice bar and lounge, and gym area with exercise equipment and weights. A Fitness Professional plans, schedules, and assists with exercises, aerobics, Tai Chi, body balance, yoga, Pilates, and other activities on senior friendly equipment.

 

Christian Care Home Health

In 1993, because of a desire to expand our services into communities within a 20-mile radius of Mesquite, Christian Care Home Health – our Campus Without Walls - was established at Christian Care Center in Mesquite. A Medicare Certified and State Licensed Home Health Agency serving Collin, Dallas, Henderson, Johnson, Kaufman, Rockwall, and Tarrant Counties, Christian Care Home Health provides 24-hour, on-call skilled nursing (RN, LVN), speech therapy, IV therapy, home health aides, telemonitoring, physical therapy, occupational therapy, medical social services, light cooking and housekeeping, personal care attendants, companion services, and medical supplies to home-bound patients. With the expansion of Home Health services to our Lakewood Village Campus, we are currently serving more than 800 people.

 

Christian Care Hospice

Christian Care Hospice was added in 2006 and is available at all three Christian Care Centers campuses in the Dallas / Fort Worth Metroplex. Christian Care Hospice dedicated to providing end of life care and services to clients living in Dallas, Colin, Grayson Henderson, Kaufman and Rockwall Counties.
